Are you looking for a gift for someone who loves Mermaids? I hand-painted and decorated this extra extra large (36cm in length) solid wood unfinished hinged box as shown. The dimensions can be seen in some of the pictures included.
I used a decoupage technique to decorate this wooden box with beautiful mermaid and sea life designs I purchased through a couple fellow Etsy shops called UniqueArtFactory and GiraffeCreative. They have some lovely designs available. Then, I printed these designs on special decoupage rice paper and used a decoupage technique to attach them to the beautiful unfinished wooden XXL box I sourced. I wanted to give a textural sea effect to the outside of the box which I achieved using special white modelling paste with added acrylic paint colours to it. Then used other acrylic paints as shown, along with antique metal corner embellishments and flat backed turquoise round gemstones. There is a black velvet felt layer on the base of the box and inside the box. Lastly, two coats of gloss varnish was added giving a rich beautiful protective finish.
